Steiger Published and Accepted into Kennedy Center Directing Intensive
Assistant Professor of Theater Amy Steiger recently published an article in the Journal of Dramatic Theory and Criticism titled “Paradoxical Sleep and Flights of Imagination: Sleep Rock Thy Brain and the Performance of Research.” Sleep Rock Thy Brain is comprised of three one-act plays commissioned for the 2013 Humana Festival at Actors Theatre of Louisville, inspired by theatrical flying technology and the neuroscience of sleep.

Katie Gantz, associate dean of faculty, completed a two-week leadership training program for women in higher education at the 2018 HERS Institute at Bryn Mawr College, located just outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. SMCM President Tuajuanda C. Jordan was a featured guest on the closing day, joining the panel on Chief Executive Officers.

Muchnick Published in Journal of Environmental Studies and Sciences
Barry Muchnick, assistant professor of environmental studies, published an article in June 2018 in the Journal of Environmental Studies and Sciences. In “The Challenge of Coordinated Climate Change Education,” Muchnick and his co-authors highlight how sustainability educators can more effectively engage their students with climate policy while also supporting students’ civic and change agent skills and dispositions to take on critical social, economic, and environmental challenges that require collective action.

Goldwater Invited PechaKucha Presenter at International Housing Officers Conference
On Tuesday, July 10, Joanne Goldwater, associate dean for retention and student success, presented a PechaKucha-style presentation at the Association of College and University Housing Officers – International conference in Denver, Colorado. PechaKucha is a presentation style in which 20 slides are show for 20 seconds each in order to keep presentations concise and fast-paced.
