St. Mary's College alumnus Ethan Elliott, who was a physics major in the class of 2006, received a NASA Early Career Public Achievement Medal on October 29, 2019, from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. NASA awards the medal for “unusual and significant performance during the first 10 years of an individual’s early career. The contribution is significant in that, for an employee who is at such an early phase of career, their contribution has substantially improved the discipline area.”
Elliott was cited “for early career achievement in leading the Cold Atom Lab engineering model testbed and key contributions to generating the first Bose-Einstein Condensate in Earth orbit.”
He was also recently featured throughout a video produced by Seeker (Discovery Channel's digital media channel), “NASA Engineered a Box to Create the Fifth State of Matter in Space” which has over one million views.
