SMCM had a strong showing in the 2019 annual meeting of the National Association for Research in Science Teaching, the preeminent international science education conference.

Angela Johnson, professor of educational studies and director of teacher education, and Liz Mulvey '20 presented a poster based on Johnson's NSF grant, Centering women of Color in STEM, entitled "Identifying and Studying Universities Where Women of Color Thrive in Physics, Math and Computer Science."

David Froom as Competition Judge

As an extension of his creative work, Professor of Music David Froom often is asked to sit as a judge in a variety of competitions. On Sunday, April 7, he joined a panel at Howard University to adjudicate a competition for music-related graphic design at Howard's College of Engineering and Architecture. And on April 27, he will be the judge for the Music Teachers Association of Charles County "Sonatina and Sonata Festival," a piano competition for pre-college-age students.

Professor Cognard-Black Selected as a Finalist for $250,000 Robert Foster Cherry Award for Great Teaching

Professor of English Jennifer Cognard-Black has been selected as a finalist for Baylor University’s 2020 Robert Foster Cherry Award for Great Teaching, the only national teaching award – with the single largest monetary reward of $250,000 – presented by a college or university to an individual for exceptional teaching.
