David Froom's Music for Flute and String Orchestra at Harvard

David Froom, professor of music, visited Harvard for a rehearsal and the Boston premiere performance of his "Petali di Gelsomino" for flute and string orchestra by the Brattle Street Chamber Players (https://www.brattlestreetchamberplayers.com/). This work was originally written as a gift from St. Mary's College of Maryland to Fudan University, celebrating the 100th anniversary of Fudan and the 25th anniversary of the SMCM-Fudan connection.

Assistant Professor Cassie Gurbisz Published in Scientific Journal “Estuaries and Coasts.”

Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies Cassie Gurbisz co-authored an article that was recently published in a special issue of the scientific journal “Estuaries and Coasts.” The paper discusses how a regional long-term aerial mapping program has generated important insights into the ecology and management of submersed aquatic vegetation (SAV) in the Chesapeake Bay.

Professor von Kellenbach Gives Invited Lecture in Stockholm

Professor of Religious Studies Katharina von Kellenbach gave the 2019 Krister Stendahl Memorial Lecture on October 31 in Stockholm, Sweden. The lecture's title was “Guilt as a Productive Force in the Transformation of Jewish-Christian Relations.” The Krister Stendahl Memorial Lecture is a yearly event to honor the memory of Krister Stendahl, bishop in Stockholm 1984-1988 and professor at the Divinity School at Harvard University.

St. Mary's College of Maryland Sailing Captures Mid-Atlantic Conference Championships

The top 18 schools in the Middle Atlantic Inter-Collegiate Sailing Conference (MAISA) battled in Kings Point, NY, for their conference crown. Throughout the semester, the top teams earned the right to represent the 55-school conference at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy October 26-27. After 26 races across both A and B Divisions in a full range of wind conditions, the St. Mary's College Seahawks bested the field. The Seahawks edged-out the U.S. Naval Academy Midshipmen by eight points.
