Seabird McKeon Named Special Initiatives Coordinator for the Ecological Society of America Natural History Section

Seabird McKeon, a visiting faculty member with St. Mary's College department of biology, has been named the natural history special initiatives coordinator for the Ecological Society of America. In this national role, McKeon will be championing the role of natural history clubs and organizations on college campuses, and launching the National Biodiversity Championships in the summer of 2019.  An expert on global biodiversity and evolutionary ecology, McKeon currently teaches Coastal Ecology for St. Mary's College students.

Mummy Expert Sahar Saleem, University of Cairo, to Discuss Ramesses III The Last Great Pharaoh

On Friday, Nov. 30 at 4 p.m., Sahar Saleem, professor of radiology at the University of Cairo, will present a lecture “Recent Research on Egyptian Mummies: Harem Conspiracy and the fate of Ramesses III: CT Scans of the Royal Mummies Rewrite History,” in Cole Cinema, Campus Center on the St. Mary’s College campus.

St. Mary's College of Maryland Presents Holiday Opera “Amahl and the Night Visitors”

The music department of St. Mary's College of Maryland will present Gian Carlo Menotti's holiday opera “Amahl and the Night Visitors” at the Bruce Davis Theater on the College’s campus on Friday, Nov. 30 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 1 at 3 p.m. The event is free of charge and open to the public but seating is limited. Reservations can be made by calling 240-895-4498.

Gijanto Named Associate Editor for "Historical Archaeology"

Brian Ganz presents "Chopin: Spirit of Poland" to honor the 100th Anniversary of Poland's Independence

Music lovers in the St. Mary's College of Maryland community have much to look forward to on Nov. 13. At noon, Musician-in-Residence Brian Ganz will perform the second recital in his fall series "Chopin: Spirit of Poland," entitled "The Heroic Chopin." The program, which will take place in St. Mary's Hall on the college campus, will feature a Chopin masterpiece, the "Heroic" Polonaise, as well as the rarely heard E-flat minor Polonaise, Op. 26, No. 2.

Katherine Koch Combines Paramedicine and Special Education Knowledge at Conference

Katherine Koch, assistant professor of educational studies, presented at the EMS World Expo held Oct. 29 to Nov. 2 in Nashville, Tennessee. Koch, who is a paramedic as well as an assistant professor, spoke on assessing, treating and transporting patients with special needs. She spoke about the important role that EMS providers have in fine-tuning assessment questions to the patient. “Physical impairments don’t necessarily correlate with cognitive competence,” she said.
