Goldwater Invited PechaKucha Presenter at International Housing Officers Conference

On Tuesday, July 10, Joanne Goldwater, associate dean for retention and student success, presented a PechaKucha-style presentation at the Association of College and University Housing Officers – International conference in Denver, Colorado. PechaKucha is a presentation style in which 20 slides are show for 20 seconds each in order to keep presentations concise and fast-paced.

Eberly to Serve as Interim Director for the Center for the Study of Democracy at St. Mary’s College of Maryland

President Tuajuanda C. Jordan announced today that Todd Eberly, associate professor of political science and public policy, will serve as the interim director for the Center for the Study of Democracy at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. He will begin the position on Wednesday, August 1, and serve until the completion of a search in early fall.

To determine this ranking, Schools.com gathered data profiles on more than 400 institutions across the country and ran them through a multi-point methodology. Based on the criteria, Schools.com ranked all 2-year and 4-year schools in the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) that reported data and calculated them on a 10-point scale. St.

Undergraduate Research Fellowship Students at St. Mary’s College Present Research Projects

For eight weeks this summer, nine students participated in the annual St. Mary’s Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF), diving into research topics of their own choosing with guidance from faculty mentors representing a diverse sampling of the college’s departments.

Assistant Professor Sherrer Publishes Study on the Harmful Impacts of Cadmium in Human DNA Mismatch Repair with Nobel Laureate

Shanen M. Sherrer, assistant professor of biochemistry, is the lead author on a new research article with Nobel Laureate Paul Modrich in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Their work shows the impact of cadmium exposure on human DNA mismatch repair (MMR). In particular, they discovered human MMR protein MutLα is inhibited by cadmium, which can lead to increased genetic mutations and cancer.
