Professor Mertz Interviewed about ASBMB’s Summer Education Meeting and NSF Grant

Pamela Mertz, professor of biochemistry, was interviewed for an article that recently appeared in ASBMB Today on the ASBMB summer education meeting that will be held at Suffolk University in Boston this July, “Transforming undergraduate education in the molecular life sciences.”   Professor Mertz is the primary organizer of this conference with three co-organizers Professor Odutayo Odunuga of Stephen F. Austin State University, Associate Professor Celeste Peterson of Suffolk University, and Professor Joseph Provost of the University of California, San Diego.

President Jordan, Professor King Participate in Lemon Project Spring Symposium

SMCM President Tuajuanda C. Jordan, PhD, and Professor of Anthropology Julia King, PhD, were panelists at the 13th Annual Lemon Project Spring Symposium held by the College of William & Mary on March 24-25, 2023. Titled, "Maryland and the World: A Roundtable Discussion about Truth and Reconciliation" the panel focused both on physical objects and digital tools and their impact on revealing the truth in our history.

Professor of Art Sue Johnson Awarded Paris Summer Fellowship

Sue Johnson, professor of art, has been awarded a two-month fellowship in Paris, France at Cité Internationale des Arts in summer 2023. Located in the Marais along the Seine, she will have a live-work studio space in the well-known arts complex that offers fellowships to an international community of artists. Based on archival research in Paris, Johnson will create new artworks that focus on historical images of women and the intersection of commerce, fashion and spectacle.

Professor of Mathematics Sandy Ganzell is co-editor with Eli Goldwyn and Aaron Wootton of “Mathematics Research for the Beginning Student," Volume 1 and Volume 2 (Springer Link, 2022). The textbooks are part of the Foundations for Undergraduate Research in Mathematics series.

Professor of English Beth Charlebois Has Chapter Published

Professor of English Beth Charlebois was recently published in "Shakespeare and Cultural Appropriation" (Routledge, 2023), edited by Vanessa I. Corredera, L. Monique Pittman, Geoffrey Way. Her chapter, titled "Prospero in Prison: Adaptation and Appropriation in Margaret Atwood's Hag-Seed" analyzes Atwood's fictional adaptation of "The Tempest" entitled "Hag-Seed."

Professor of Business Silvio Borrero Participates on ICFES Board

Inaugural William Seale Professor of Business Silvio Borrero participated in the Colombian Institute of Education Evaluation (ICFES) board of directors meeting on March 15. Borrero has been a member of the ICFES board of directors since 2017, when he was appointed by Colombia’s President Juan Manuel Santos. ICFES is a government organization responsible for the evaluation of education in Colombia.
