 St. Mary’s College of Maryland President Tuajuanda C. Jordan is co-chair of a newly established Carnegie Postsecondary Commission. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, in partnership with the XQ Institute, announced members of the commission Wednesday, June 14.

Join us this Juneteenth to help shape the future mission of the Commemorative to Enslaved People of Southern Maryland at St Mary’s College of Maryland. Built in honor of those forced to labor in the region, the Commemorative celebrates stories of Black resilience, resistance, and freedom. This pop-up station will feature informational displays telling the story of the monument and invites your input on what should come next.

Professor emerita Merideth Taylor receives Telly Award

Professor Emerita Merideth Taylor and David Taylor of Phocus Video in Lexington Park, Md., received a silver Telly Award for the short documentary film titled, “Sotterley: Talking and Walking Common Ground.” The production highlights Sotterley’s Common Ground Initiative and Descendants project. It explores the various perspectives between the diverse descendants as they discuss Sotterley’s past and its impact on their lives.

Jon Geyer '26 Awarded AAA's Mentorship Award

Jon Geyer ’26, a double major in anthropology and Asian Studies with a minor in Chinese, has been awarded the American Anthropological Association’s Ina Rosenthal-Urey Mentorship Award. The award pairs undergraduate anthropology majors with mentors from both academia and practice, who support the student in learning about their educational and career options after graduation. Awardees receive a $500 award and complimentary AAA membership.
