St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s Board of Trustees approved a new test optional admissions policy on Saturday, February 1, 2020. This means first-year applicants seeking admission to the College beginning in the fall of 2021 may choose whether or not to provide standardized testing (SAT or ACT scores) as part of the admission application process.

The Office of the President presents ESPN analyst and bestselling author Jay Williams on March 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the Michael P. O’Brien Athletic and Recreation Center, 19050 Hill Commons Drive, on the St. Mary’s College of Maryland campus.

Professor of Music David Froom's clarinet concerto, "Canzoni di Notte" has been announced as the first prize-winner of the Riverside Symphony's National Composers Competition. As the winner, this work will receive its premiere performance in Alice Tully Hall (New York City), conducted by George Rothman and featuring clarinet soloist Narek Arutyunian. The concert will be on Saturday, April 18, beginning at 8 p.m.

Today the Board of Trustees of St. Mary’s College of Maryland announced a freeze in tuition, fees, and room and board costs for the 2020-2021 academic year. The decision was made after a review of recommendations from a Board of Trustees Task Force, formed in 2019 at the request of President Tuajuanda C. Jordan.

St. Mary's College alumnus Ethan Elliott, who was a physics major in the class of 2006, received a NASA Early Career Public Achievement Medal on October 29, 2019, from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.  NASA awards the medal for “unusual and significant performance during the first 10 years of an individual’s early career. The contribution is significant in that, for an employee who is at such an early phase of career, their contribution has substantially improved the discipline area.” 

Professor of Biology Karen Crawford's presentation was selected as an oral presentation in a complementary session in the 2020 SICB Symposium "Building Bridges from Genome to Phenome: Molecules, Methods and Models," held January 3-7, in Austin Texas.

Sarah Latchney, assistant professor of neurobiology, has recently been published in Behavioural Brain Research titled, “Indices of dentate gyrus neurogenesis are unaffected immediately after or following withdrawal from morphine self-administration compared to saline self-administering control male rats.”
