St. Mary’s College of Maryland is pleased to announce that Mayor of Baltimore and St. Mary’s College alumnus Brandon M. Scott ’06 will be the College’s 2021 Commencement speaker. The virtual Commencement celebration will be held on Saturday, May 8, beginning at 9 a.m., to coincide with the first of three in-person Grad Walks at the Jamie L. Roberts Stadium.

SMCM President Tuajuanda Jordan is featured in Authority Magazine’s series titled “Lessons From Inspirational Women in STEM and Tech.” For the feature, President Jordan was interviewed on the subject of sexism in the STEM fields and the real barriers women face in their roles as scientists.

Professor of Art Carrie Patterson and Assistant Professor of Photography Tristan Cai are 2021 recipients of the Independent Arts Awards presented by the Maryland State Arts Council. In addition to the recognition, both will receive grants to support their continued artistic growth.
