On Wednesday, April 6, at 5:45 p.m., Professor of Physics Josh Grossman will virtually give the SMCM Natural Sciences & Mathematics Colloquium, titled, “How quantum computing will soon transform chemistry, biology, computer science, physics, materials science, national security, finance, logistics, and more.”  The Mid-Atlantic Quantum Alliance (MQA) will feature the talk as part of their Quantum Tunnel webinar series.

Boucher Selected for ICSA-BUSA Tour

Junior skipper Leo Boucher (West River, Md./South River) was one of eight collegiate sailors picked to represent the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) in the bi-annual ICSA – British Universities Sailing Association (BUSA) Tour this upcoming summer (July 15-August 9) in England as announced late Monday night.

St. Mary’s College of Maryland Premieres Student-Composed Fight Song

Drawing the lyrics for “Fly High Mighty Seahawks” from her positive interactions while attending St. Mary’s College of Maryland, Mary Purtilo ’23 will live in St. Mary’s College history as having composed the College’s official fight song.

“A lot of the lyrics in my song came from words of encouragement I have received since I have been a student at SMCM. It's nice to be able to give them back,” Purtilo said.

Dereck Rovaris Announced as Vice President for Equity and Strategic Initiatives

St. Mary’s College of Maryland President Tuajuanda C. Jordan has appointed Dereck J. Rovaris Sr., as vice president for equity and strategic initiatives. He will join St. Mary’s College in mid-April and will report directly to the president.

“Dr. Rovaris will be an invaluable addition to our community,” Jordan said. “His experience and wealth of knowledge will aid in amplifying existing programs. By helping us develop and implement new programs, the College can both fulfill its mission and become a place where all who enter our community have the greatest opportunity to thrive.
