First-time and transfer students and their families were welcomed by President Tuajuanda C. Jordan, faculty and staff, on the Campus’ Townhouse Green during the 2018 Convocation ceremony. With more than 500 students, it’s the largest number of first-year and transfer students choosing the College since 2011 and an increase of 17 percent when compared to fall 2017.

Since Todd Eberly, associate professor of political science and public policy at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, took the helm of the College’s Center for the Study of Democracy on August 1, he has moved forward with reorganizing the Center and initiating programing.  

St. Mary’s College student Amanda Siskey ’19, participated in a 10-week internship at University of Maryland, Baltimore County’s Summer Research Program in Baltimore at the Interface between Science and Art (SCIART).

Registration is now open for one of St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s most popular events, Hawktoberfest, Oct. 19 - 21, 2018. The annual event attracts more than 1,000 visitors to the College’s waterfront campus each year for a weekend full of festive fall activities.

In early August, Angela Draheim '03, academic program support coordinator and web specialist for the psychology department, represented the Zeta Chapter of Maryland at the 45th Triennial Council of Phi Beta Kappa held in Boston, Massachusetts.

St. Mary’s College Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies Cassie Gurbisz’s research on Chesapeake Bay grasses is featured in an article in today’s Baltimore Sun. The article discusses the impact of flooding on oysters and grasses as another surge of stormwater and pollution flows through Conowingo Dam.

The department of theater, film, and media studies at St. Mary’s College of Maryland will host its eleventh annual film series, “Visions and Voices: Indigenous Media from the Americas,” at 8:15 p.m. on Sept. 19, Sept. 24, Oct. 15, and Oct. 22. The series will take place in the College’s Cole Cinema, Campus Center, and will highlight the works of four award-winning filmmakers.
