On Friday, Nov. 30 at 4 p.m., Sahar Saleem, professor of radiology at the University of Cairo, will present a lecture “Recent Research on Egyptian Mummies: Harem Conspiracy and the fate of Ramesses III: CT Scans of the Royal Mummies Rewrite History,” in Cole Cinema, Campus Center on the St. Mary’s College campus.
The music department of St. Mary's College of Maryland will present Gian Carlo Menotti's holiday opera “Amahl and the Night Visitors” at the Bruce Davis Theater on the College’s campus on Friday, Nov. 30 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 1 at 3 p.m. The event is free of charge and open to the public but seating is limited. Associate Professor of Anthropology and Aldom-Plansoen Professor Liza Gijanto was recently named an associate editor for "Historical Archaeology," the official journal for the Society of Historical Archaeology (SHA). She was invited to serve based on her expertise in African Historical Archaeology.
Jessica Malisch, assistant professor of biology, has been invited to give a research seminar at Towson University on November 13. The seminar will focus on research conducted in Malisch's research laboratory at St. Mary's College.
Music lovers in the St. Mary's College of Maryland community have much to look forward to on Nov. 13. At noon, Musician-in-Residence Brian Ganz will perform the second recital in his fall series "Chopin: Spirit of Poland," entitled "The Heroic Chopin." The program, which will take place in St. Mary's Hall on the college campus, will feature a Chopin masterpiece, the "Heroic" Polonaise, as well as the rarely heard E-flat minor Polonaise, Op. 26, No. 2.
Katherine Koch, assistant professor of educational studies, presented at the EMS World Expo held Oct. 29 to Nov. 2 in Nashville, Tennessee. Koch, who is a paramedic as well as an assistant professor, spoke on assessing, treating and transporting patients with special needs. She spoke about the important role that EMS providers have in fine-tuning assessment questions to the patient. “Physical impairments don’t necessarily correlate with cognitive competence,” she said.
