On Thursday, February 7, a faculty, staff, and student team representing the Heirloom Garden Project – a new partnership between the Environmental Studies Program at St. Mary’s College of Maryland and Historic St. Mary’s City – received a grant award from the Maryland Agricultural Council during the Annual Taste of Maryland Agriculture gala in Glen Burnie, MD.
The Office of the President presents writer, novelist, and professor Jamaica Kincaid on March 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Auerbach Auditorium of St. Mary’s Hall on the St. Mary’s College of Maryland campus. Part of the Presidential Lecture Series, the event is free of charge and open to the public but reservations are required at www.smcm.edu/kincaid.

St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s anthropology department presents Sameena Mulla, associate professor of anthropology at Marquette University, as the latest guest speaker in the Visiting Anthropologist Program. Mulla will discuss “Anthropology and Sexual Assault: U.S. Clinics and Courts in 21st Century,” on Monday, Feb. 25, beginning at 4:45 p.m. in Cole Cinema, Campus Center on the College’s campus.
St. Mary's College of Maryland will host three artists who will present design proposals from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. Feb. 12, 13 and 14 for a contemplative memorial to commemorate the lives of enslaved peoples of Southern Maryland.
During a special reception on the evening of Friday, February 1, St. Mary’s College of Maryland Board of Trustees named Hal Edwin “Ed” Cole Sr. (posthumously) and Loretta “Tiny” Taylor to The Order of the Ark and Dove.
An Evening with Roy Wood Jr. takes place on Friday, April 12, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Michael P. O’Brien Athletic and Recreation Center, 19050 Hill Commons Drive. Wood is the 13th lecturer for the Annual Twain Lecture Series on American Humor and Culture. Ticket prices are $10 for general admission and $5 for Arts Alliance members.
