Jackie Villadsen, assistant professor of physics, has been awarded a $13,000 grant from the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO).  The funds will provide stipends, conference travel support, and research computing for students participating in research with Villadsen. 

Christine Wooley, associate professor of English and associate dean of curriculum, has a new article in PMLA: the journal of the Modern Language Association of America, which is the top critical journal in the field of English studies. Each issue is sent directly to over 25,000 college and university teachers of English and foreign languages.

Susan Grogan, professor of political science, has been selected to receive the 2019 Pi Sigma Alpha/James I. Lengle Chapter Advisor Recognition Award. This award recognizes Grogan’s nearly 30 years of service as faculty advisor to Sigma Omicron Chapter at St.

The Center for the Study of Democracy, a joint project of St. Mary’s College of Maryland and Historic St. Mary’s City, will host the 2019 Constitution Day Lecture featuring Darrell M. West on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. in the College’s Cole Cinema, Campus Center.  This event is free of charge and open to the public.

In July of 2014, Jason Rezaian and his wife were detained in their Iranian home and he went on to spend 544 days in Tehran’s Evin prison, released on the same day that the historic nuclear deal between Iran and world powers was implemented. On Thursday, October 17 at 7:30 p.m., former U.S. correspondent Rezaian will deliver the Benjamin C. Bradlee Distinguished Lecture in Journalism on the topic of his book, “Prisoner” (Anthony Bourdain Books, 2019).
