Professors Receive Grant to Develop Teacher Education Program in Computer Science

Lindsay Jamieson, associate professor of computer science; Alan Jamieson, associate professor of computer science; and Angela Johnson, professor of educational studies and director of teacher education, received a $19,049 grant from the Maryland Center for Computing Education to develop a preservice teacher education program in computer science.

St. Mary’s College of Maryland presents the inaugural Mulberry Music Festival – Act 1, featuring chart-topping gospel recording artist Jason Nelson and a diverse lineup of local musicians, on Friday, June 14, 2019, from 6-9 p.m. on the College’s Townhouse Green. The event is free of charge and open to the public.

SMCM Chemistry and Biochemistry Students Present Research at National Conferences

Nine St. Mary’s College of Maryland chemistry and biochemistry students presented their original research at two national conferences in Orlando, Florida, this spring: the 257th National American Chemistry Society (ACS) conference and the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) annual meeting, part of Experimental Biology 2019. The students presented on work related to their senior capstone projects (St. Mary’s Projects), other research they completed within the department, or as part of a summer research program.

Professor of Art Sue Johnson Named in The Washington Post Exhibition Review of “Misprints”

Professor of Art Sue Johnson is mentioned in The Washington Post exhibition review by Mark Jenkins (April 12, 2019) of the exhibition “Misprints” at the Pyramid Atlantic Art Center, Hyattsville, Maryland.  Johnson is among the 24 artists included in the exhibition that focuses on the curious ‘accidents,’ some purposeful, that can happen during the process of printmaking.

SMCM History Students Present Research at Phi Alpha Theta Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference

Four St. Mary’s College students presented their original research at this year’s Phi Alpha Theta Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference at Bowie State University on March 30, 2019. Phi Alpha Theta is the national history honor society. The regional conference showcases undergraduate and graduate research that focuses on primary historical sources and that engages in the critical examination of current historical arguments.
