Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies Cassie Gurbisz’s paper, “Long-term Nutrient Reductions Lead to the Unprecedented Recovery of a Temperate Coastal Region,” published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) last March, is one of only six papers selected to receive the PNAS’s Cozzarelli Prize.

This past summer, St. Mary’s College of Maryland biology majors Hannah Smith ’20 and Michael Timmer ’20 participated in the prestigious 12-week Summer Internship Program at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland, and both have been invited back to their respective labs for 2019 summer program. Smith interned in the pediatric oncology branch and Timmer in the neuro-oncology branch.
Joanne Goldwater, associate dean for retention and student success, is the 2019 recipient of the James C. Grimm Leadership and Service Award, a major award from the Association of College and University Housing Officers - International (ACUHO-I).
St. Mary’s College of Maryland is pleased to announce the appointment of Allison Shane as assistant varsity sailing coach. Shane grew up sailing in Duxbury, Mass., and taught at Duxbury Yacht Club and Duxbury Bay Maritime School (DBMS) for several summers. Shane graduated with a bachelor of arts degree from St. Mary’s College in 2015, where she majored in public policy and competed on the varsity sailing team for all four years.
