Student Boucher ’22 Defends Middle-Atlantic Men's Singlehanded Champion Title

Leo Boucher ’22 (West River, Md.) successfully defended his 2018 title as Middle-Atlantic Men's Singlehanded Champion by winning the Carl Van Duyne Trophy, Sept. 21-22 at the United States Naval Academy.  Boucher bested the 18-boat field over fourteen races held mostly in moderate sea breeze conditions.  The victory qualifies the 2018-2019 St.

St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s Biology Department presents Jeremy Testa to discuss “The Long Road of Chesapeake Bay Restoration: Resistance, Resilience, and Recovery” as part of the Natural Science and Mathematics Colloquia series. The African and African Diaspora Studies program at St. Mary’s College of Maryland will host its second annual fall symposium, “From Invisibility to Remembrance: Commemorating Slavery at St. Mary’s and Beyond,” on Wednesday, Oct. 2 beginning at 8 p.m. in Cole Cinema, Campus Center, and on Thursday, Oct. 3, beginning at 6 p.m.

SMCM Student Connects Physics and Drones with Anthropology During Internship at UMD UAS Test Site

Using drone technology, Luke Quinn ‘20 spent his summer researching a way to more efficiently survey archaeology sites for magnetic anomalies.

Through an internship with the University of Maryland Unmanned Aerial Systems Test Site (UMD UAS), Quinn, a St. Mary’s College of Maryland physics major with a concentration in applied physics, researched the feasibility of attaching a magnetometer to an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), commonly referred to as a drone, to survey archaeology sites.
