Before presenting his St. Mary's Project in psychology via poster on campus at the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics and Recreation Center during SMP Days on May 2, James Atwell '23 presented his research via oral presentation at the Mid-Atlantic Undergraduate Psychology Conference hosted by Harford Community College in Bel Air, MD on April 21. His project entitled "Special K: Effects of (R)-ketamine on Animal Models of Depression" was mentored by Professor of Psychology Aileen Bailey.

Professor Carrie Patterson is one of several landscape painters to be a visiting artist at Mt. Gretna School of Art where she will lead a landscape painting workshop for two weeks in June. Patterson will give a talk titled: "Sight To Site: A Visual Field Guide" on Wednesday, June 28, from 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Mt. Gretna is a nonprofit located in the town Mt. Gretna, Pennsylvania, a historic Chautauqua. The school is dedicated to providing life changing and transformative opportunities for artists from the time they are students to their emergent careers. 

Associate Professor of French George MacLeod is quoted in Pulitzer Prize-nominated journalist Jacqueline Charles' recent article in the Miami Herald on difficulties facing Haitian migrants in Tijuana, Mexico. The article describes how, during a research trip to Tijuana in late April 2023, MacLeod, who is fluent in French and proficient in Haitian Creole, spoke with many Haitian refugees about their lives.

When 10 senior student-athletes are competing in NCAA Championship Tournament action on 2023 Commencement day, St. Mary’s College of Maryland rolls out the red carpet a little early.

The senior members of the men’s and women’s lacrosse teams will be unable to attend the 2023 Commencement ceremony scheduled for Saturday, May 13, as they will be competing in the second and first round, respectively, of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. 

Professor of History Christine Adams co-edited and wrote the introduction to the latest issue of H-France Salon, a multimedia journal of French Studies. Adams currently serves as associate editor for the journal. Staffed completely by volunteers, all of whom hold PhDs, H-France Salon promotes scholarly work and discussion on the history and culture of the Francophone world through digital form.

Sue Johnson's artwork is part of a two-person exhibition at The Delaware Contemporary in Wilmington, Delaware from June 9 - August 27. In "External Reflections | Internal Identities" artists Sue Johnson and Constance McBride both explore the lives of their respective mothers.
