Students are back on campus and excitement is all around. Everyone at the College is settling into their routine, some new, some familiar, renewing old acquaintances and making new ones. There is much to look forward to as we begin a new academic year.

Office of Community Outreach & Engagement Hosts Successful Volunteerism Day

The Office of Community Outreach and Engagement, in partnership with the St. Mary’s County Human Relations Commission and the Nonprofit Institute of the College of Southern Maryland, held a successful Volunteerism Day event on Saturday, Sept. 7 in the Dodge Performing Arts Center. Nearly 30 local nonprofits participated, providing students and the entire campus community an opportunity to learn about the missions of these organizations and how SMCM can contribute to their important work. Several organizations had over 20 students sign up to volunteer.

President Jordan Discusses Higher Education on HERS Panel

St. Mary’s College of Maryland President Tuajuanda C. Jordan participated in a panel Tuesday, Sept. 10, hosted by Higher Education Resource Services (HERS) where she and two additional higher education presidents spoke of their decisions to pursue their respective roles.

Office of Public Safety Receives $375,000 Grant from Maryland Higher Education Commission

The St. Mary’s College of Maryland Office of Public Safety has received a $375,000 grant from the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) under the Campus Safety Grant initiative proposed by Governor Wes Moore in his FY 2025 budget for the State of Maryland.

Commemorative to Enslaved Peoples of Southern Maryland Included in Maryland Underground Railroad Guide

The Commemorative to Enslaved Peoples of Southern Maryland at St. Mary's College of Maryland is one of four St. Mary's County sites included in the latest edition of the new statewide guide, Finding Freedom, Faith & Family on Maryland's Underground Railroad (PDF download) published by the Maryland Office of Tourism.
