Professor of History Betül Başaran attended a conference in Paris on the perceptions of the World War I era in the Middle East, where she gave a talk entitled "Niloufer Hanım Sultan: An Exiled Ottoman Princess in Hyderabad, India and Muslim Women's Leadership Roles after WW1."

Volunteer readers from the St. Mary’s County community visited classes and read from Black authors' literature that holds special importance to them. Volunteers throughout the day also spoke with students about their respective journeys in life, education and career.
Julia King, professor of anthropology, was named to the George B. and Willma Reeves Endowed Chair in the Liberal Arts in recognition of her numerous accomplishments as a full-time professor at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. King’s term took effect at the start of the spring 2024 semester and runs through May 31, 2026.
Established in 1997, the Reeves Endowed Chair in the Liberal Arts recognizes “a distinguished scholar with broad expertise … an eminent scholar and gifted teacher who provides academic leadership.”
