Psychology major Danny Biller ‘27 recently received a 2024-25 Psi Chi Summer Mamie Phipps Clark Diversity Research Grant for his proposal, “Resistance or Uncertainty? Degendering and Pronoun Use Toward Transgender and Nonbinary Applicants.” He received $1500 to conduct a follow-up study to his Spring 2025 directed research project with Associate Professor of Psychology Kristina Howansky documenting pronoun use toward non-binary individuals. In this work, Danny examines how people use or avoid gendered pronouns when describing transgender and nonbinary job applicants, exploring whether degendering stems from resistance or uncertainty, and how this predicts evaluations of candidates. Funds will be used to pay survey participants recruited from Prolific. In recognition for the strength of Biller's proposal, Howansky received a stipend of $1500 as part of the award.
