On Wednesday, April 6, at 5:45 p.m., Professor of Physics Josh Grossman will virtually give the SMCM Natural Sciences & Mathematics Colloquium, titled, “How quantum computing will soon transform chemistry, biology, computer science, physics, materials science, national security, finance, logistics, and more.”  The Mid-Atlantic Quantum Alliance (MQA) will feature the talk as part of their Quantum Tunnel webinar series.

Assistant Professor of Digital Art Jessye McDowell, in their role as president of the New Media Caucus, is inaugurating a three-part series of talks on Art, Tech + Advocacy. The series is in collaboration with Public Art for Racial Justice, and the Ammerman Center for Arts & Technology.

The Twain Lecture Series on American Humor and Culture presents An Evening with Reese Waters Friday, April 1, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Michael P. O’Brien Athletics and Recreation Center, 19050 Hill Commons Drive.

Drawing the lyrics for “Fly High Mighty Seahawks” from her positive interactions while attending St. Mary’s College of Maryland, Mary Purtilo ’23 will live in St. Mary’s College history as having composed the College’s official fight song.

“A lot of the lyrics in my song came from words of encouragement I have received since I have been a student at SMCM. It's nice to be able to give them back,” Purtilo said.
