Students Place at MAA Sectional Conference

On April 22-23, St. Mary’s College of Maryland students presented their work at the MD-DC-VA sectional conference of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) held in Germantown, Maryland. Gillian Carr ’22 won the award for the best student presentation. The “Radical Dash” team of Alyson Conover ’22, Gillian Carr ’22, Joseph Daly ’24 and Lucius Latham ’22 took first place. The “Math Jeopardy” team of Alyson Conover ’22, Gillian Carr ’22 and Sawyer West ’22 took second place.

Grad Walk Marks Early Flight for Nine Seahawks With Championship in Sight

St. Mary’s College of Maryland celebrated nine student-athletes on their commencement three days early. 

The senior members of the women’s lacrosse team will be unable to attend the 2022 Commencement ceremony scheduled for Saturday, May 14, on the Townhouse Green as they will be competing in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship held at The College of New Jersey, the same day.

Two Students Invited Speakers at Jefferson Patterson Park

St. Mary’s College of Maryland graduating seniors Caitlin Hall and Samuel Johnson are invited speakers to Jefferson Patterson Park’s Speaker Series on May 19 at 7 p.m. in St. Leonard, Md. Hall and Johnson will each speak about their original research done as part of their senior capstone “St. Mary’s” project.

Assistant Professor of Psychology Elizabeth Enright and colleagues recently published an article titled, "Prenatal PFAS and psychosocial stress exposures in relation to fetal growth in two pregnancy cohorts: applying environmental mixture methods to chemical and non-chemical stressors," in Environmental International, an open access journal.

St. Mary's College of Maryland Jazzed for Mulberry Music Festival

St. Mary’s College of Maryland presents the Mulberry Music Festival: Jazz, featuring Joseph Brotherton, the Kelly Bell Band, Carly Harvey, and headlined by Sharón Clark on Friday, June 17, beginning at 6 p.m. on the College’s Townhouse Green. The event is free of charge and open to the public. It will be simultaneously livestreamed on the College’s website. In addition to performing, Harvey, a St. Mary’s College alumna, will reprise her role as mistress of ceremonies.

On Friday, April 1, twenty-nine St. Mary's College of Maryland students were inducted into Phi Beta Kappa's Zeta Chapter of Maryland. One member of the St. Mary's College faculty -- Jennifer Cognard-Black -- was inducted as an honorary member.

Chemistry and Biochemistry Students Present Research at National Conferences

Nine St. Mary’s College of Maryland chemistry and biochemistry students presented their original research at two national conferences this spring: the National American Chemistry Society (ACS) conference in San Diego, Calif., and the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) annual meeting, part of Experimental Biology 2022 in Philadelphia, Pa. The students presented on work related to their senior capstone projects (St. Mary’s Projects), other research they completed within the department, or as part of a summer research program.
