Professor of History Christine Adams co-edited and wrote the introduction to the latest issue of H-France Salon, a multimedia journal of French Studies. Adams currently serves as associate editor for the journal. Staffed completely by volunteers, all of whom hold PhDs, H-France Salon promotes scholarly work and discussion on the history and culture of the Francophone world through digital form.

Sue Johnson's artwork is part of a two-person exhibition at The Delaware Contemporary in Wilmington, Delaware from June 9 - August 27. In "External Reflections | Internal Identities" artists Sue Johnson and Constance McBride both explore the lives of their respective mothers.

Professor of English Karen Leona Anderson Published, Invited Reader

Professor of English Karen Leona Anderson wrote a short essay about her previously published poem, “Rat” that was published recently in Poetry Daily’s “What Sparks Poetry: Ecopoetry Now.” Additionally, on May 4, Anderson is an invited reader at the “The Materials Issue” poetry reading, a collaboration between the Phillips Collection and the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore, Maryland. Printed copies of “The Materials Issue: Full Bleed” will be available in May/June 2023.

Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies Cassie Gurbisz Leads SMCM's Participation in $3.5 Million NSF Grant Collaborative

St. Mary’s College of Maryland is part of a collaboration of six institutions that was recently awarded a $3.5 million grant from the National Science Foundation. The project, led by Penn State, focuses on how aquatic plants and animals, such as clams, salt marshes and seagrasses, affect carbon cycling in the Chesapeake Bay.

St. Mary’s College of Maryland has joined JED Campus in support of student well-being and mental health. The program is a nationwide initiative of The Jed Foundation (JED) designed to help schools evaluate and strengthen their mental health, substance misuse, and suicide prevention programs and systems to ensure that schools have the strongest possible mental health safety nets.
