Assistant Professor of History Sarah Malena has been selected as the Regional Scholar for the Mid-Atlantic Region of the Society of Biblical Literature for this academic year. This achievement also qualifies Malena for consideration to receive the Regional Scholar Award at the national level.
The Regional Scholars' Program “recognizes promising younger scholars in the field of biblical studies. Its objective is to encourage their intellectual development through a mentoring program and to provide practical assistance in securing a place to present their work at the Society's Annual Meeting.”
Malena’s current research addresses relations between Egypt and Jerusalem the 10th century BCE. She examines historical and archaeological evidence and ancient Israelite cultural memory as expressed in biblical texts. Malena will be presenting her research at the society’s annual meeting in November.
