
The St. Mary's College of Maryland (SMCM) Institutional Advancement (IA) marketing team won seven different awards across a range of categories in the 40th Annual Educational Advertising Awards, announced March 11. The Awards included three gold, one silver, one bronze and two merit awards for total digital marketing program, digital videos, logo design and print publications.
"Our IA marketing team never disappoints. Continuously winning these national awards is an extraordinary achievement, underscoring our team's creativity, strategic vision and commitment to lifting our College's reputation," said Carolyn Curry, vice president for institutional advancement for SMCM. "Time and time again, their work stands out on the national stage adding to the distinctiveness that is St. Mary's College."
The publications team, headed up by Director of Writing & Content Lee Capristo and Senior Graphic Designer Jo Oliver '99, received a Gold Award for the Nautical Flag Quick Facts card, a Silver Award for the Admission Location brochure and a Merit Award for the Prospective Student Viewbook design. Special thanks are due to the Office of Admission and other campus partners for their roles in these projects.
Marketing & Publicity Manager Ashley Hardy received two awards for projects she oversaw: a Gold Award for the Nancy R. & Norton T. Dodge Performing Arts Center logo design and a Bronze Award for the 2024 Mulberry Music Festival promo video. Dodge PAC staff and other campus partners also contributed to the successful work on these projects.
The entire marketing team earned a Gold Award in the Total Digital Marketing Program category for the fall admission recruitment campaign. Once again, Enrollment Management and outside partners helped bring home this award.
Finally, Video Intern Anthony Lanzano '25, video editor, was recognized with a Merit Award for the Chiles Homesite Anthropology Excavation video, with acknowledgment to Professor of Anthropology Liza Gijanto and her students.
These recently announced awards build on the Office of Integrated Marketing & Communications' earlier efforts during 2023-2024 academic year. In the Collegiate Advertising Awards, the team received a Gold Award for the Spirit of SMCM: Memories of 2023 holiday video and a Silver Award for the Mulberry Music Festival promo video. The Web Services team composed of Director Jeannette Modic, Developer Amber Caldwell and Content Specialist Jacob Zyla received a Silver Award for the Photo of the Day feature and a Bronze Award for The Current student communications platform in the 12th Annual Education Digital Marketing Awards. Communications Specialist Gretchen Phillips and Marketing Intern Ashlyn Conley '25 are among the principal contributing photographers to the Photo of the Day feature.
