St. Mary's College of Maryland raised more than $456,000 - a record - from 3,881 donors, surpassing a goal of 3,500, on Giving Tuesday, Dec. 2. This remarkable achievement for the National Public Honors College reflects the dedication, creativity, and collaboration of our entire community.
In a 32-hour effort beginning at 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1, students, faculty, staff and members of the community made contributions supporting more than 90 individual activities or funds. "Champions" for various activities across campus - varsity sports, clubs, academic departments, scholarship funds and more - activated their networks to respond. Challenge funds provided by members of the Alumni Council helped inspire donors, providing opportunities to enhance individual contributions.
Students had a special opportunity to participate; in addition to being able to make the standard $10 minimum contribution, students could qualify as donors on Giving Tuesday by donating a non-perishable food item to the campus food pantry, Solomon's Shoppe, or by signing 25 thank-you cards for donors.
