St. Mary’s College of Maryland welcomes Dr. Yasser Elshayeb from Cairo University to campus to discuss a recent discovery at the great pyramids on Friday, Sept. 28 at 4 p.m. in Cole Cinema located in Campus Center. This event is free and open to the public.
Elshayeb is the deputy coordinator of the ScanPyramids mission, an international project launched in 2015 that aims to scan Giza Pyramids using modern nondestructive and noninvasive techniques. As part of this mission, scientists from Egypt, Japan, France and Canada, were able to successfully employ cosmic rays in order to scan the internal structure of the Great Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu), and were able to determine the existence of previously unknown voids within the pyramid.
Elshayeb’s visit to St. Mary’s College is sponsored by the departments of anthropology, history, and the cross-disciplinary programs in museum studies and African and African diaspora studies. His visit to the United States is sponsored by World Artists Experiences.
