"Being a part of SURF exposed me to the abundance of research opportunities that St. Mary’s College has. I learned multiple skills that will be helpful for my career, in whichever sect of psychology I decide to pursue." - psychology major Vera Armstead '20.

St. Mary’s College’s annual St. Mary’s Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program provides students opportunities to engage deeply in independent research, laboratory, and creative work across disciplines, under the guidance and with the expertise of faculty mentors. Project presentations take place July 3 in Glendening Annex.

Titled “Nicotine’s Impact on Anxiety and Drug-Seeking Behaviors in Adolescence,” Armstead’s research was mentored by Gina Fernandez, assistant professor of psychology.
