St. Mary’s College of Maryland recognized 15 senior student-athletes in a special grad walk for the senior men’s and women’s lacrosse teams, who due to the spot they’ve earned in the NCAA Championship Tournament will miss the regularly scheduled 2024 Commencement exercises Saturday, May 11.

Men’s and women’s lacrosse student-athletes will be competing that day in the second and first round, respectively, of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.

The College held the Grad Walk Thursday, May 9, under the same tent where their peers will gather Saturday. The Seahawks were joined for the ceremony by their family, friends and teammates, as well as faculty and staff.

The graduates received a shorter, but still traditional commencement experience, as administrators were in full regalia, the 15 student-athletes’ names and majors were read aloud, and each walked the stage and posed for a photo with President Tuajuanda C. Jordan.

“This special event is a culmination of four years of excellence in the classroom, community and the competition arena, " said Crystal Gibson, the College’s director of athletics and recreation, prior to the event. “These student-athletes have represented the College at the highest level and will continue to do so this weekend in the NCAA championships.  We look forward to cheering them on as they cross the stage and then onto the field.”

Our senior women’s lacrosse players will begin their NCAA journey Saturday taking on Grove City College in first-round action at 3 p.m. on the campus of Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa.

Our senior men’s lacrosse players will see second-round action Saturday, facing No. 2 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) at 12 p.m. on RPI's campus in Troy, N.Y.

The 2024  Commencement takes place Saturday at 10 a.m. on the College’s Townhouse Green. Saturday’s Commencement will be live streamed, as was Thursday’s Grad Walk. Both links can be found on the College’s Commencement site
