In this VIRTUAL ROUNDTABLE, an international panel of African and American democracy
scholars from Senegal, South Africa and Israel provide their expertise and insight into the
prospects for democracy and peace in Sahelian Africa.

The three featured speakers will give 15-minute presentations on the following topics:

Hussein Solomon, Senior Professor at the Center for Gender and Africa Studies, University of
Free State, South Africa - Islamism in the Sahel: Trends and Trajectories. 

Oumar Ndongo, Professor of American Studies and Comparative Literature, Cheikh Anta Diop University,
Dakar, Senegal - The War Against Jihadism in the Sahel: Local Security Initiatives vs The
Wagner Paramilitary Cooperation in Burkina Faso.
 

Sheldon Gellar, PhD, consultant whose expertise includes conflict analysis, democratic governance, decentralization, participatory
development strategies - Democratic Trends and Trajectories in the Sahel.

This event is sponsored by the Center for the Study of Democracy (CSD) and the Department of
Anthropology. The CSD will provide a Seahawk box lunch or meal ticket to the Great
Room.
