Helping us to celebrate the grand opening of our Nancy R. and Norton T. Dodge Performing Arts Center, multi-platinum and Grammy-nominated R&B/soul superstars Average White Band will perform live in concert from 7:30-9 p.m. on Saturday, September 24th. These 70’s chart-toppers are still going strong, with new releases complimenting their classic smash hits like “Pick Up the Pieces,” “Schoolboy Crush,” and “Cut the Cake.”
AWB’s lasting impact stems from their uniquely diverse approach to rhythm and blues. Formed in Scotland and inspired by American jazz artists such as “Cannonball” Adderley and Herbie Hancock with the soulful influence of Marvin Gaye and Al Green, the band has evolved into an eclectic mix of original members with new American bandmates. In turn, AWB’s music has influenced countless Hip-Hop, Rap, and modern R&B artists through sampling of their music by performers such as TLC, Ice-Cube, P-Diddy, and Mark Ronson.
Join us at the Nancy R. and Norton T. Dodge Performing Arts Center for what is sure to be a memorable, funky time as these Scottish-American heavyweights bring their soulful show to St. Mary’s College of Maryland!
