InsideSMCM for Parents and Families - February 23, 2022

Dear Parents,

We’ve updated our newsletter format to improve your user experience! We look forward to “seeing” you at one of our upcoming virtual events and hope you will peruse some of the exciting news at St. Mary’s College of Maryland.

Events: Recap & Upcoming

The annual Reeves Lecture and Southern Maryland Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast were both a resounding success. The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Nu Zeta Omega Chapter donated over 700 food items to the campus food pantry for the MLK Day of Service. Professor of English Jeffrey Hammond presented "Memento Mori: A Journal of the Plague Year" during the Reeves Lecture, reflecting on what the COVID-19 pandemic has taught us about our economy, technology, politics, educational system and national self-image.

St. Mary’s College is preparing for its next annual program, “Nurturing the Compassionate Community: An Evening to Honor the Legacy of Lucille Clifton.” Sponsored by the Office of the President and the VOICES Reading Series, this year’s virtual presentation will feature poetry readings and reflections to honor the late Lucille Clifton, former distinguished professor of the humanities at St. Mary’s College. We hope you will join us on Monday, February 28 at 7:30 p.m. via Zoom for this special event (pre-registration required).
