Sue Johnson, professor of art, exhibits her work in a solo exhibition titled, “Hall of Portraits from The History of Machines,” now on view at VisArts Gibbs Street Gallery in Rockville, Maryland, from Sept. 11 – Oct. 18, 2020. New York art critic and curator Saul Ostrow gave the following review of Johnson’s exhibition in deliciousline.org: “Sue Johnson is a cultural historian, an archeologist of other dimensions. She has a sharp eye for the overlooked and the never-was. You can imagine her as the guest host for an episode for ‘The Twilight Zone’ that takes place in a department store that caters to male fantasies.”
Johnson will also teach a virtual art workshop for VisArts, titled “The Surrealist Sketchbook,” on Sunday, Oct. 11, from 4-7 p.m. Johnson will discuss her work, guide the class through surrealist writing exercises and corpse drawings, and attendees will create their own collages modeled off of Johnson’s work. This workshop includes materials which can be picked up from VisArts before the week of the workshop.
