Associate Professor of Chemistry Geoffrey Bowers and five St. Mary's College students presented their research posters at the American Chemical Society (ACS) spring conference at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia, from March 22-26. Bowers' poster, "Research is Curriculum" postulated that research should be at the center of the curriculum taught to students studying geochemistry. Luka Ackerman '26 and Nasir Howard '28 co-presented their research with Asst. Prof. of Chemistry Yunling Deng, titled "Expanding the Catalytic Landscape of Cytochrome P450 for Sustainable Chemistry." Gerchel Toledo '26 presented "Controlled Oxidation of Microscale Aluminum Alloy Powders in Air: Insights into Decomposition Mechanisms and Storage Conditions," co-authored by Assoc. Prof. of Chemistry Troy Townsend. Elena O'Connor '26 presented "Work Function Materials Engineering of Printable Inorganic Solar Cells," and Afua Atta-Poku '26 presented "Bathless Electroplating Method for Localized Spot-Plating on Unique Surfaces" -- both of which were co-authored by Assoc. Prof. of Chemistry Troy Townsend.
