St. Mary's College of Maryland mourns the passing of Brandon T. Jones '02, a distinguished alumnus, technology executive and member of the College's Athletic Hall of Fame. Jones died Oct. 19, 2026. He was 46.

A standout guard for the Seahawks men's basketball team, Jones helped shape one of the most successful periods in the program's history. He remains the College's all-time leading scorer with 1,732 career points and holds the career record for field goals made (640). A four-year letter winner, he twice led the

Capital Athletic Conference in scoring and earned second-team all-conference honors in 2000 and 2002.

During his junior season, Jones helped lead the Seahawks to an 18-8 record, setting what was then a school record for wins as an NCAA Division III program.

He also earned team MVP and Coach's Award honors and was a member of the College's 1,000 Point Club.

Yet those who knew Jones remember a legacy that extended well beyond his accomplishments on the court.

As one remembrance from a member of the Seahawks basketball community reflected, Jones was a driving force behind the team's success and embodied the St. Mary's Way. His influence continued long after graduation, through his professional leadership, mentorship and devotion to his family.

"Whether as a teammate, a colleague, a husband, a father, or a friend, Brandon understood that true leadership is not measured by titles or accomplishments, but by the lives you touch, the people you lift up, and the legacy you leave behind."

Following graduation, Jones built a successful career in the technology industry, including serving as CEO of Throughline, Inc., an enterprise design strategy firm. His commitment to developing others was recognized in 2024 when he received the Mentor of the Year award from the Information Technology Senior Management Forum.

"Brandon's legacy extends far beyond the records he set as a student-athlete," said St. Mary's College President Rhonda Phillips. "His professional achievements and continued connection to the College benefited our community. We were especially fortunate to welcome him back as our keynote speaker at this year's Board retreat."

"On behalf of the entire College community, I extend our heartfelt condolences to Brandon's family, friends, former teammates and all who knew him. We are grateful for the example he set and the lasting mark he leaves on St. Mary's."

As family, friends, former teammates and colleagues gather Monday, Nov. 2, to celebrate Jones' life, the St. Mary's College community joins them in honoring his memory and the lasting impact he made on those who knew him.
