Together with colleagues Sydney Oakland and Jennifer Beers from University of Texas at Austin, Associate Professor of Psychology Gili Freedman recently published an article “Knowing versus doing: How much can training help people soften the blow of social rejection?" in the open-access Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin journal.

In this paper, researchers examined whether we can train people to reject in ways that mitigate the negative consequences of social rejection. They found that a short video training can help people choose more beneficial language (e.g., providing positive regard and sincere alternatives) when engaging in a social rejection.
