Associate Professor of Psychology Jennifer Tickle was named President-Elect of the Eastern Psychological Association (EPA) in February 2025. The position is has a 3-year term and begins in June 2025.
Tickle's research examines how media content and media format influence cognition, attitudes and behavior, particularly in relation to health. She has been a member of EPA since 2004 and a Fellow since 2020. She coordinated social psychology programming as program chair from 2016-2019, and served on the Board of Directors from 2020-2023 as the organization addressed the pandemic’s impact and re-emerged from its wake. At the EPA Annual Meeting, Tickle regularly presents research with student co-authors and co-hosts professional development sessions for department chairs.
In her candidate statement, Tickle said "I am honored to have been nominated to serve as EPA President. As a graduate of Dartmouth College (PhD Psychological and Brain Sciences, 2002), I appreciate both high-quality research and undergraduate education which led me to seek an academic position and professional affiliations that value both. I began attending EPA nearly two decades ago as a regional venue where I could present and learn about cutting-edge research and network with fellow teacher-scholars and professionals. I also wanted to share with my students the excitement of presenting collaborative work and the intellectual stimulation of hearing from prominent scholars and developing professional skills. I feel strongly that EPA’s conference provides a unique and important venue for scholars at all levels to engage in science. My experiences as program chair and board member have given me an understanding of the board’s responsibilities and how the convention operates, and I am eager to contribute to EPA’s strong leadership team. As president I hope to enhance regional awareness of our organization and convention, to grow and support a diverse membership through programming and networking opportunities, and to explore new ways the organization can meet its varied members’ needs."
