A year ago, Professor David Froom was approached by the California Music Center to compose the required works for solo violin, solo viola, and solo cello for the semi-finalists of the 2018 Irving M. Klein International String Competition.  On June 2 and 3, he will travel to San Francisco to join a distinguished jury to hear the semi-finalists, each of whom will play one of those three new works. The nine semi-finalists, selected from among the 85 entrants applying from 14 countries, will compete for prizes of orchestral concerto and recital performances, plus $31,000 in cash awards. At the conclusion of the competition, Froom's three works (“Violinetude,” “Violetude,” and “Violoncelletude”) will be published by American Composers Edition.
