Jonathan Haidt, a social psychologist at the NYU Stern School of Business, is making waves with his new book The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness.

The book explores how adolescent mental health plunged in the early 2010s and traces the cause to the decline of play-based childhood (which you probably experienced) and the rise of a phone-based childhood (which our students probably experienced).

This book raises a lot of important questions about how we as educators can engage and support our students... So let's talk about it!

Please join me for a casual chat on Wednesday, May 15 at 11am in Learning Commons 111 about Haidt's ideas and their implications for our community. If you'd like to read the book, fabulous! For a shorter version, check out this March 2024 Atlantic article: End the Phone-Based Childhood Now
