BONUS VOICES Reading: A VOICES Celebration of the Legacy of Michael Glaser, May 4

Join us Sunday, May 4 from 4-6 p.m. in Daugherty-Palmer Commons for an evening of poetry and music in honor of SMCM Professor Emeritus and former Maryland Poet Laureate Michael S. Glaser's poetry and legacy.
Michael S. Glaser (1943-2025) served as Poet Laureate of Maryland from 2004 – 2009 and St. Mary’s College for 50 years as an English faculty member and co-founder and director of the annual Literary Festival and VOICES reading series. He was a tireless advocate liberal arts education, authentic teaching and learning, good citizenship, and the examined life.
Glaser was an award-winning teacher and poet, renowned for his dedication to sustaining the poetic tradition in Maryland. Over 500 of Glaser’s poems have been published in literary journals and newspapers. His works include collections of poetry, chapbooks, edited anthologies, and the Collected Poems of Lucille Clifton, co-edited with Kevin Young (BOA, 2012).
Glaser received his B.A. from Denison University and his M.A.and Ph.D. from Kent State. In 2020 he moved to North Carolina with his wife, the educator Kathleen W. Glaser. He is the proud father of five grown children, Brian, Joshua, Daniel, Amira and Eva, and twelve grandchildren.
Poetry will be shared by colleagues, friends, and students of Michael's from St. Mary's and beyond as well as members of the Glaser family. Featuring Kaia Sand, Wayne Karlin, Grace Cavalieri, Brian Ganz and Dave Kung.
The reading will be followed by an informal “Community Chorus” celebrating Michael’s legacy and a reception .
