Visibility of Disability: Exploring the Intersectionality of Disability, Race and Gender | "Mental Health, Memories and the Earth"

Cherish Marquez (she/they), (b.1989 El Paso, TX, USA) spent her childhood in Sierra Blanca, TX, and her adult life in Las Cruces, NM. Currently, she lives and works in Denver, Colorado. She holds a BA in Fine Arts and Creative Writing from New Mexico State University and an MFA in Emergent Digital Practices from the University of Denver. She is an interdisciplinary artist with a focus on digital media. Her work explores environmental justice, mysticism, mental health, queer identities, and healing from generational trauma. Her work operates from a queer Latinx perspective and is heavily subjected to speculative futurism.

The digital artist Cherish Marquez calls upon her memories to influence her work. The artist herself has been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and has used art as a form to express herself while calling upon inspiration from the desert. The artist uses the flora and fauna of the vast landscape to explore her culture and her heritage. The artist talk Mental Health, Memories, and the Earth will dive deeper into the artist's artistic practice and how it relates to her culture and disability.
