St. Mary's College of Maryland's Musician-in-Residence Brian Ganz will perform his first full-length evening recital at the College in over two years. The program, entitled "Chopin: Breaking the Rules," will take place on February 17 at 8 p.m. in Auerbach Auditorium of St. Mary's Hall on the College campus. The evening will be a preview of Ganz's upcoming recital at the Music Center at Strathmore, the 11th in his "Extreme Chopin" series of the composer's complete works. The February 17 recital, like the program at Strathmore, will feature several episodes of Ganz's signature "Musical Gardening," in which he plays early works of Romantic composer Frédéric Chopin and follows them with more mature works in the same genre, demonstrating the composer's growth process. Among the works presented will be favorites such as the "Minute" Waltz and the "Heroic" Polonaise, as well as rarely heard works, including a virtually unknown "Contredanse."

Campus visitors must be up to date on vaccinations for COVID-19 and be able to present proof upon request by College officials when attending indoor events or large gatherings outside when social distancing cannot be ensured. If campus visitors are not up to date on vaccinations or cannot show proof, they must present proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of arrival to campus. Face coverings must be always worn indoors.
