The psychology department welcomes Maneeza Dawood as the final speaker in its 2020-2021 lecture series:  Intervention Science: Harnessing Psychology to Address Oppressive Systems Topic TBA Maneeza Dawood, M.A., M.Phil., is a fifth-year doctoral student at the Department of Psychology at Columbia University, working with Dr. Valerie Purdie-Greenaway. She earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Columbia University. Prior to beginning her doctorate, she worked as a research coordinator in the Division of Behavioral Medicine at the Columbia University Medical Center. She has advised and trained many students in the lab as a mentor and led numerous volunteers and organizers at an annual scholastic tournament as a founder. She is broadly interested in identity and intersectionality with a particular focus on Muslim adolescents. Using longitudinal, daily diary, and social network analysis methods, she investigates identity-based motivation and interventions to promote civic behavior and academic success. She also conducts in-depth program evaluations of participants’ psychological outcomes at the high school tournament she designed to shatter stereotypes, to build leadership skills, and to develop a greater understanding of Muslim identity. Free and open to the public.
