Opening events for the 2019 AADS Symposium, "From Invisibility to Remembrance: Commemorating Slavery at St. Mary's and Beyond," will take place at 8:00 p.m. in Cole Cinema on Wednesday, October 2, 2019. Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, will deliver the keynote address. A roundtable discussion on slavery and the potential for reparations in the United States and the Caribbean will follow the keynote address. Ana Lucia Araujo, author of "Reparations for Slavery and the Slave Trade: A Transnational and Comparative History," and Keri Leigh Merritt, author of "Masterless Men: Poor Whites and Slavery in the Antebellum South," will join Dr. Gonsalves for the roundtable discussion. The panel will be moderated by Professor Garrey Dennie.
