Due to this weekend’s forecasted winter storm, the St. Mary’s College Campus will be closing at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, and remain closed through Monday, Jan. 26. Residence halls will remain open. Public Safety and facilities will work actively to ensure the safety and comfort of students who remain on campus. In the event of a power outage or other storm-related impact to our campus, we have secured the emergency resources necessary to address student needs. Additional details are below.

The St. Mary’s College Emergency Response Team (ERT) will continue to monitor the weather forecasts and potential impacts and will issue additional communications as warranted.
UPDATE 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26
Due to continued icy conditions on campus and on many secondary roads, the campus will remain closed on Tuesday, Jan. 27. All classes and activities scheduled for that day are cancelled or postponed.
Physical Plant staff have been at work through the weekend and continue to focus on the ability of students to safely reach the Campus Center. The Great Room will be open for all students, regardless of whether you have a meal plan. Hours for Tuesday are as follows:
Brunch 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Lite Lunch 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Dinner 4 p.m. - 6 p.m.

Solomon's Shoppe (food pantry) will also be open from 3 - 5 p.m. today, Monday, Jan. 26, for students who need to stock up on additional food supplies.
SMCM Winter Weather Event: Campus-Wide Preparedness & Support Plan
In preparation for the upcoming storm, the College is communicating key updates related to campus operations and student support services. These measures are intended to promote safety, continuity, and student well-being. Please bookmark www.smcm.edu/snow to see the latest updates.
Saturday Dining Hall Hours
- Brunch: 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
- Light Lunch: 1:30 – 3 p.m.
- Dinner: 3 – 5 p.m.
Food & Water Pickup
- A supply of non-perishable food items and sandwiches will be available Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., in the Dining Hall at no cost to students, whether they have a meal plan or not. Take-out containers will also be available, at no charge, to fill and take with you.
- Food and bottled water will also be available for pickup in the common kitchens of Waring Commons and Lewis Quad, Caroline, Dorchester, Queen Anne and Prince George Halls.
Sunday Dining Services
- Dining Services will be closed on Sunday
- Students with a meal plan will receive a credit for that day, which will be issued as a credit to each student's account.
- On Saturday, students are strongly encouraged to pick up the food they will need for several meals and to plan ahead.
Food Pantry
Solomon’s Shoppe, located in Waring Commons, is stocked and available. Hours:
- Friday, Jan. 23: 3 - 6 p.m.
- Saturday, Jan. 24: 1 - 3 p.m.
River Runner Shopping Shuttle
The River Runner Shopping Shuttle is scheduled to run:
- Friday, Jan. 23: 4:30 – 8 p.m.
- Saturday, Jan. 24: 12:00 – 4 p.m.
Students are encouraged to use the shuttle to stock up on essentials for the weekend.
Electrical Service
While the College has a triple-redundant connection to the electrical grid, loss of power is a possibility. In the event of an extended loss of power, warming stations will be set up at the Campus Center, Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center and Hilda C. Landers Library.

Weather Event Tips
- Avoid unnecessary travel
- Fully charge your devices and any portable chargers in advance of the storm
- Stock up on supplies such as water, non-perishable food, medications, and a flashlight with extra batteries
