Organization Description
As a Hunger-Free Campus Maryland Higher Education Commission’s Hunger-Free Campus Grant Program award, St. Mary’s College of Maryland upgraded its on-campus food pantry and moved its location from Campus Center to Waring Commons. Known as “Solomon’s Shoppe”, the pantry offers gently worn professional clothing in addition to food and toiletries.
In addition, the Wellness Center maintains a Caring Corner where members of the SMCM community can obtain, also free of charge, hygiene and health care products, including dental hygiene products, body wash, shampoo, hair brushes and combs for a variety of hair textures, hand sanitizer, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, tea bags (for sore throats and vocal performers) and more.
The national trend in food insecurity is increasing and many people suffer in silence. Solomon's Shoppe and the Caring Corner offer places where barriers are removed and the campus community can receive the support they need to be successful at St. Mary's College.
