Tiffany Dioko ’25 (biology major) interned during the summer of 2023 at the Kate Chandler Campus and Community Farm. Dioko was mentored by Barry Muchnick, associate professor of environmental studies and the programming and organizing force behind the farm’s success and its new partnership with Farming 4 Hunger.

“Our Partnership with Farming 4 Hunger has shown me a new level of fulfillment,” Dioko said. One of Dioko’s responsibilities included donating eggs and produce. “When I deliver eggs and produce, I meet other individuals who want to help the community and the community itself. It genuinely brightens my day to know that I am part of the community and I can make a difference,” she said.

Other summer farm intern responsibilities included taking care of chickens, watering plants, weeding, planting crops, harvesting crops and anything else that needs doing around the farm. Dioko’s internship opportunity was available as part of the Honors College Promise. St. Mary's College students are guaranteed the opportunity to pursue an internship, research experience or international study. That promise is supported by the College's LEAD Initiative (Learning through Experiential and Applied Discovery).
