"The opportunities St. Mary's [College] gives you in having those internship opportunities and hands-on work ties directly with what we're learning in class...it's a nice transition from in-class work to the field."

Yasmin Cazares joined Professor Liza Gijanto and other student interns and community volunteers on a spring break archaeological excavation at the Chiles Home Site in the Douglas Point Special Recreation Management Area in Charles County. The team explored the site following up on an earlier 2005 excavation that suggested the site may have been home to enslaved or indentured persons working at the home site.

The College's LEAD initiative helps ensure every student has an opportunity for real-world learning through an internship, research or an international exeprience - what we call the Honors College Promise.
