Isabella Newman '27 and Isabel Walder '27 have both received awards under the U.S. Department of State’s prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program to support a semester of study abroad. The Gilman Program is a highly competitive, merit-based scholarship intended to provide students with demonstrated financial need the opportunity to acquire skills that are essential to America's national security and economic prosperity.
Isabella Newman will study in Perugia, Italy, during the fall 2026 semester. An anthropology major with a concentration in archaeology and double minors in environmental studies and museum studies, Newman will study anthropology, ancient history, art history, environmental studies and Italian while in Italy. She plans on a career as a curator in a museum, or perhaps in public events and education in the museum field.
Isabel Walder will study in Budapest, Hungary, during the spring 2027 semester. A mathematics major, she will join the Budapest Semester in Mathematics program and looks forward to taking a class in algebraic combinatorics while there. Walder plans to pursue a Ph.D. in mathematics and become a teacher.
